CANINE DISEASES

DOGS SMUGGLED FROM CONTINENT Dogs smuggled from the Continent are believed to have brought with them a mysterious canine dis-t ease that is seriously affecting valuable British breeding kennels and baffling veterinary surgeons, states an English' newspaper.

Generally, outbreaks have occurred near aerodromes, where airmen have brought pets back from abroad without placing them in quarantine. All breeds of dogs are being affccted t and one breeder at Wantage, lost £BOO worth of stock in a recent outbreak.

The disease leaves dogs which do not succumb with a form of para.J lysis. The symptoms arc a raging temperature with running at the eyes and noses. “Outbreaks have occurred after shows' held at Oxford and Kettering ” one breeder said. “One woman bad 27 cases in her kennels after exhibiting at tlie shows, of. them being fatal.”
