HIGHER EDUCATION
WANTED BY FARMERS’ CHILDREN
REQUEST FOR HOSTELS Amongst remits considered at last Executive meeting of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union (Auckland Province) was one from the Hikuai branch of the Northern Thames subprovince reading as follows: — “That owing to the urgent necessity for improving higher education facilities to country children and the present state of financial conditions relating thereto, this sub-pro-vince urge the N.Z. Farmers’ Union to press for the Government to build hostels adjacent to District High Schools with 75 per cent, to be paid by the Government.” The remit was strongly supported, one member questioning the wisdom of restricting the suggested Government grant to 75 per cent.
