WHAT NEXT EDGECUMBE?
The R.S.A. Ball lias come and gone and. a peaceful lull has' fallen once again over Edgecumbe, but Ayait ! * what is this ?—suspicious characters (later recognised as agents from other districts) stealthily snooping around street corners and muttering ‘too d quiet, wonder what’s cooking!’ Night of. 28 Jan-i uary—at last a clue—limousine driven by lan B. Goav, D. S, Rad cliff e, C. Thompson and many other celebrities, speeding to a rendez\ r ous> Skilfully, tracking these men of fame the sleuth hounds finally sidled up to the Social Hall at the Factory and Avhat a coup! a den full of Avhispering conspirators. Never dreaming, that spies were afoot no precautions Avere taken by these Edgecumbe Gold Diggers otherwise the protruding ears of the villians would have been clearly been seen silhouetted, in the open doorway. Because of this ladk of caution the following conversation was overheard and passed back to all districts :
Chairman: The Grand Sports .Carnival will be held at Edgecumbe on Saturday, March 2. Member: Hundreds of athletes Avill be competing* Mr Bell: Dozens of axemen have promised to come. Ladies: Men live to eat so that day we will make living a joy.
Member. There’ll lie stalls, refreshments and sideshows galore and Freddie Burt will have a busy day.
Secretary: A dance at night will make, the Avhole Avork complete.
Just then Tiny Radcliffe who was/ sitting by the door started to snore and the rest of the conversation was lost to the ‘big ears’ who advise tile public to read the papers and look for all the ‘dinkurn oil* about this sensational sports carnival. P.B.A.
