ANNIVERSARY DAY INCIDENT

Before Messrs G. Brabant and C. H. Christensen, J.Ps., in the Whakatane Court last Wednesday John Kemp pleaded guilty to having been found in' a state of intoxication in charge of a 'truck in Louvain Street, Whakatane oil the evening of Jan-' uary 29. Sergeant Farrell said that accused was a returned soldier who had been to the Ohope Gala during the afternoon where he had had too much

to drink. When trying to negotiate the corner of the street he bad landed his vehicle in the ditch. Mr Tv. Buddie who defended stressed the fact that the Rehabilitation Committee had assisted the accused with his partner into a business in which a driver’s license was absolutely essential. Taking cognisance of the seriousness of the charge the court decided 'f in view of all the circumstances and the fact that accused was a lirst offender that a fine would meet the case. Kemp was fined £25.
