STILL MISSING
W/O ALFRED BRUCE CLARKE
Missing since April last year Warrant Officer Alfred Bruce Clarke, only son of Mr and Mrs H. Clarke, of. Whakatane, and brother of Mrs B. Waller, of Hawera, was born in Tauranga in 1921. He was educated at Te Puke and Whakatane District High Schools. After leaving school he was apprenticed to the bakery trade. On completion of his apprenticeship in 1941 he enlisted with the R.N.Z.A.F. ’ Alter being in camp at Hobson vi lie, Whenuapai and Levin, lie went to Ohakea where he gained his wings before leaving New Zealand as a Sergeant Pilot. On reaching England he was for some time a Flying Instructor before going on operations as pilot of a Mosquito Bomber. W/'O Clarke was married while in England to Miss Hosil. He was a keen sportsman and won several cups for his prowess on the golf course. He was always very popular and made many friends both at home and overseas.
