HOSPITAL AMALGAMATION ISSUE

THE unfortunate rift between Borough and County niter** ests with regard to the above should be healed with the’ quickest possible despatch. There has obviously been two distinct schools of thought on the subject for some time and it ill-becomes either party to allow a mere difference ot opinion to jeopardise the harmonious relationship which should ever be the keynote of town and country connections especially where the two communities are so closely interlocked as in this district. The investigatory committee which has been set up has a dual role now, to fulfil. Not only must it go thoroughly into the pros and cons of the suggested amalgamation, but it must also have as its objective toe placation of both bodies with regard to the misunderstanding which has arisen, and the obvious feeling which it has engendered. There is far too much at stake m a thriving and growing district such as ours to have it otherwise. We look forward confidently to a well-balanced report resulting from*the first meeting of the cmnmittee—a report which will be logically sound and financially correct m all its recommendations, be they for or against amalgamation with the Waikato Hospital District.
