AWAKERI DANCE

WELCOME HOME FUNCTION A recent Saturday marked a gay occasion in the Awakeri Hall when the district's monthly dance on behalf of the Welcome Home Fund was held. A large crowd from all surrounding districts were present. An air of Christmas festivity marked the occasion and. a lively dance programme was supplied by the Premier Band. Mr C. MacDonald in his capacity as M.C. thanked the gathering for their attendance. He mentioned that there, were still a number of servicemen to be “welcomed home’' to the Awakeri district.

The feature of the. evening was the final of the. £(> Monte Carlo which had been running for six months. The lupky winners were Miss J. Poison and Mr J. Turpin and it was pleasing to note that six couples were available to take part though in a couple of instances partners had to be substituted in view of the absence of the original winners. The winning couple received the prize of £6 while all the other contestants also received a handsome prize., There were several novelty dances and dancing concluded at a late hour.
