TANEATUA’S LEAD
THE township of Taneatua has given a long-awaited lead to the district generally in the successful running of organ, ised carnival events and street festivities over the CltriSt mas and New Year holiday periods. Particularly at New Year was Taneatua in colourful contrast with the rest of the County, where exactly nothing had been done* to observe the arrival of 1946— perhaps the most momentous year in the world’s history—in time-honoured fashion. Y/vv gather that Taneatua residents are so satisfied with the ouv.-' come of their efforts that it is their intention of organising the event on progressively better lines annually. It their intentions are and we know of no reason why they should not be carried out we may yet have the rather picture of a general exodus to Taneatua and a deserted! Whakatane as a result.
