TOMORROW’S ATHLETIC SPORTS MEETING
FOR the first time since the pre-war years the Whakafane Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club will hold a sport* and field day in the Domain tomorrow afternoon. Town and district will welcome the re-formation of the club and give encouragement to its renewed activities. Amateur ath* letics have an appeal all their own for the endeavour behind them is to reinstate the running of sports for sport s Professionalism is outlawed, and monetary rewards aift strictly taboo. Winners of all events compete merely for the pleasure of winning and are judged completely on their merits as exponents of running, cycling,, jumping, hurdling or chopping as the case may bev Tomorrow’s gathering, though largely experimental, will lay the foundation for big' ger meetings in future, and will, we trusty go a long way towards the cultivation of renewed popularity for amateur sport.
