PRE-ENTRY COURSE
EX-SERVICEMEN UNIVERSITY STUDENTS
AUCKLAND SCHEME
Designed to meet the needs of students taking university courses; after a long interruption in studies due to Avar serA r ice, a scheme for a special pre-entry course has been formulated by Auckland University College says a statement from the Rehabilitation Department. The course will be a full-time one and the subjects taken will be of Sixth Form standard of work. So tkat they will fit in with the commencement of the forthcoming academic year, the classes Avill start at the beginning of December and Avill continue until university lectures commence in 1940, withi a short, break for Christmas and Ncav Year holidays. The course will correspond with the normal teaching day of a secondary school and the tutors will probably be secondary school teachers. The classes will range from 10 t 0 20 students, so that as much individual assistance as possible can be given.
The Rehabilitation Board bps agreed to pay fees up to £lO a stu-*-dent for approved ex-servicemen, wishing to take the course. In addition subsistence allowances at the usual rate will be paid for the per-*-iod of special tuition, but excluding the holiday period. Conditions. are that there must have been an interruption in studies of at least tAVo years, that the applicant must be commencing in 1946 a full-time or part-time university course and that he must be recommended by the District Vocational Guidence Officer.
