EVERY PERSON A SWIMMER

THE sad boating tragedy at Lake Rotoma last Sunday unr* derlines once again the vital necessity of teaching every person to swim. It was something of'a miracle in the most recent incident, that there were not more victims in view of all the circumstances. Every encouragement should therefore be given the recently-formed local Swimming Club* the local Sea Scouts, and the Ohope. Surf Club. In a counn try such as ours, surrounded by the sea and with lakes and rivers in abundance it is imperative that all should be at home in the water. The annual list of drowning fatalities is a reproach to ourselves as a community for no*, insisting upon universal and compulsory swimming lessons in every school.
