OHOPE BEACH ACCESS
OPENING OF MAIR STREET
USER SEEKS RENT REDUCTION
In a letter to the Whakatane County regarding the use of Mair Street east and west at £lO for six months, Mr F. Mahy Sen. seated that he was at a disadvantage not only because of the short notice in which to prepare the area for the. use of the public if the offer was refused, but also because he had committed himself by taking deposits and made contracts with' campers for the reservation of sites on the areas Christmas and Nervy Year. This small area was necessary for, at the most, six weeks for after the peak period campers can be more than accommodated on the writer's own area. £2 2s in wages has already been paid to Goodwin Bros, to clear and burn right of way and the writer has himself spent two days clearing and burning rub-* bish on Mair Street West. The £5 offer to the Domain Board was coiv sidcred a fair offer, but if the council insists on £lO the writer will be compelled to pay such seeing contracts have "been made with campers. Council was asked if it would therefore reconsider its terms. The council decided that it could make no variation in its original terms.
