NEW YEAR'S CALEDONIAN SPORTS
TOWN and district will be present at the Grand Caledonian Sports and Highland Gathering at' Ohope Beach on New Year's Day. The Sports this year promise to eclipse anything' previously held in the district and proffer no less than £250 in'prize-money to competitors. Particular attention has been focussed upon the Piping and Dancing section which will include, two Provincial Championships tor which it is anticipated there will be numerous competitors of first rank from Auckland, Hamilton and Taranaku, The Society intends to consolidate its claim to New Year s Day in the Bay of Plenty and to that end is laying the foundations for what is confidently expected will develop into one of the most picturesque Highland and Athletic o-atherings in the Province. New developments include a completely improved layout of the athletic course; a pe*> manent dLcing stage; additional stalls and conveniences. From reports to hand three Pipe Bands will be m at* tendance at least and display and colour should be never lacking throughout the day.
