EXTENDING EXISTING HOURS XMAS AND NEW YEAR'S EVES A poin't raised by Cr Good alt last Monday's meeting of the Borough Council was the desirability of keeping the street community lights, on at a later hour than 10.30 p.m. 9 when they normally are switched off on Christmas and New Year's, Eves. Enlarging on his point, Cr Good [said tha't unfortunately due mainly jto the fact that the town was plunged into darkness at an early hour last year, there was considerable hooliganism and trouble. Many people were still in the. main street and being at a loose end started getting into mischief. The Mayor agreed that there could not be a repetition of last year's scenes. Cr Warren said that from what he knew the people had been stranded in town because of the shortage of transport, which kept them hanging about the streets for hours. It was left to the Electrical Engineer to provide all the lighting possible and as late as restrictions permitted.
