R.S.A. APPEAL

MEMORIAL WELFARE CAMPAIGN details of objectives The following statement has been • submitted for publication, by the -Central Committee of the R.S.A. Queen Carnival campaign:— What is this Memorial Appeal we -are hearing about in town anil country and what are the funds requir-j •ed for ?, Following on articles that have appeared in our local press and a circular addressed to every '"Householder" the. R.S.A. assisted by a large body of friends- and willing helpers are out to raise a sum of money to be expended by the R.S.A. for the assistance of any returned servicemen or servicewomcn requiring assistance. . From our district the Whakatane town and country we have sent 1700 -of the flower of our manhood to -iigWt our battles and we anticipate there w'ill be between 1000 and 1200 who will return, to settle in the district. What fetter Memorial can we have than a sum of money for their after care and welfare, and lor their dependents if they so ve r -quire it. The money raised by this • appeal will be held in trust and used for no other purpose than to assist those in need. It is anticipated that sufficient funds will be raised to — (1) Set a sum aside \that will bring in an annuity to assist in the education" of deceased or disabled ■soldiers' children. (2) Provide liquid funds to help the'needy in time of privation, as one pound when required is worth twenty a week too late. We, in making this appeal, appreciate Hhe fact that there are Patriotic funds in band but no matter what the funds or what may be collected by this appeal, "Will anyone say the sum is too great for the .purpose for which it is required?" For the purpose of this appeal (the district is divided into Town and Country there being a number of "Princesses" competing for the honour of being elected Queen of the U.S.A. This will be done by votes, «ach shilling collected counting as one vote. The campaign for the County is under ilhe capable direction of Mr Tom Macken, Chairman, .-and Mr Dave. RadclifTe, :assisted by many willing helpers. At the moment the names of the Princesses for the County are a strict secret. In the town, Miss Beverley Armstrong represents ;the interests of the Business People and Old Veterans, With Miss Pain King representing the Young Veterans. Both these charming Princesses are ably assisted by strong committees. During the campaign, which will end, in April {there will be numer'Ous and varied functions held throughout the town and country which will be advertised through the press. . , We solicit your help one and all to assist us to assist those who through six long years have fought for us, (that we may have freedom, peace and plenty. They have, done their part willingly, let us do our part by giving cheerfully.
