Crippled Children The Borough Council has donated the sum of £2 2s to the W-hakatane Committee operating in the interests of the N-Z. Crippled Children's Society. Harbour Board Vacancy The vacancy caused on the Harbour Board; by the resignation of Mr G. R. Kant will be referred back to the Borough Council with the request that steps be taken to till the position by a further nominee. Accident With Hay Grab Falling on a hay grab last Friday, seven year old Lynette Hampton? daughter of Mrs H. T. Hampton] Waimana } injured her right leg, and was admitted to the Whakatane Public Hospital. She is reported to be progressing satisfactorily. Trips to Whit? Island The Whakatane Harbour Board has applied to the Minister of Marine seeking permission to take par. ties on the board's to Wh'ite Island a procedure which has been forbidden for some owing to the dangerous nature of the volcanic section of the island crater. Burnt Out Shop Site The Whakatane Harbour Board has again written the Building Conpointing out that the vacant section in the Strand, owned by Whakatane Amusements Ltd., pre. sents a growing and urging further that a permit for rebuilding shouM be issued in view of the. fact that the site has been vacant for more than four years. Whakatane Post Office Reassuring the Borough Council that the new Post Office had been classified as urgent, and given a high l priority the Postmaster General wrote last evening stating that his department though faced with many pressing undertakings was keen to commence the Whakatane building at the earliest possible moment. The council decided to write thanking the Minister for his action and j courtesy. Forthcoming 'Egyptian' Evening Something right out of the ordinary is promised for Thursday evening next when the 'Gyppo' evening and dance promoted by the Young Veterans Committee in connection with the R.S.A. Queen Carnival will take place in the Caledonian Hall. Patrons are promised a wealth of novelties and not a little in the way of surprises. Those who like to participate in something different by way of entertainment should noil miss; this opportunity. School Gala Day A very attractive programme has been arranged to take place on Thursday December 13 5 at the Whakatane District High School's Gala Day. The afternoon is timed to commence at 1 p.m. with a drill display. Entries for the baby show will be accepted up till 2.15 p.m. ? and it is expected, that a large number of youngsters will be entered. Added attractions are a flower show ? various sideshows and displays of work. Afternoon tea } ice cream and soft drinks will be available. Parents are asked to make a special effort to attend the function.
