REGENT PREVIEW

ATOMIC ENERGY FEATURETTE This coming Wednesday Thursday ami Frida3 r i a special featurctte is to be screened at the Regent Theatre, with the picture "Phantom Lady." It is entitled 'Miracle Makers' and I'.oncerns the world's latest scientific develo-pment—atomic energy. But *.ic novelty of this short is in tiie fact that it was made and circulated in New Zealand over two years when atomic energy was still regarded in the light of as a thing which would take perhaps several hundreds years to evolve, as a force which existed only in the writings of H. G. Wells, interesting only as a scientific theory. World developments have proved it otherwise, and now this previously novel featurctte has' become an exceedingly interesting record of fact. It describes how man has harnessed various forms of power and then goes into an explanation of how much destructive power there, is in an atom. This featurette will do much to help the layman understand the. theory of atomic energy. "Phantom Lady" The picture "with which the above featurette is associated is entitled "Phantom Lady." It is unusual for the fact that while it is a murder mystery. it is neither a "horror' nor a 'crime' thriller. It is. built round the story of a man who though innocent of his wife's murcjer cannot prove nnd is condemned to death. The only witness who can substantiate 11is alibi is a certain lady Avho.se name he does not know, and Avhom he cannot find. More than | hail' tiie iilm is silent, completely 'without sound effects or dialogue; the suspense is held through implication and mood. The story Is based on a psychopathic depre-sive whose urge to 'kill dominates his mind. II is an excellent dnuna'iv production.
