Three Charlies "I have always claimed that thi; town is fortunate in possessing the services of the 'three Charlies','' snitl Mr H. («. Warren at the meeting of the Chamber of Commerce last week. "[ refer to Messrs Charlie Good Charlie Thomas and Charlie Armstrong. They are all young men and have done an immense amount of good for the town. Any one of them would be well worth having in executive positions on any organisation Large Crowds at Ohope The summer weather in once again calling many Whakatane residents to pass their Saturdays and Sundays at Ohope Beach. The past few Sundays particularly have seen the picnic grounds lilled with cars and picnickers whilst the sea is proving its irresistable attraction to young and old alike. Bookings for baches for the holidays at the hostel have been heavy and indications; are that this summer may see the return of Ohope to almost pre-war popularity. Progress of Scouting The first conference of Scout Commissioners in the Bay of Plenty took place in Whakatane recently when a plan of review embracing the towns of Whakatane Tauranga and Opoti'ki was fully discussed. It was decided to start in the New Year with a district magazine which will [covcr scouting programmes throughout the district and give an indication of the varied activities of all groups. All Commissioners reported continued and with the new additional Scout Troops, and Cub Packs at Edgecumbe and Thornton, there are now twenty-five registered units in the Bay of Plenty. The next matter of any consequence is the arranging of the annual camp at Lake Rotoma in the New Year.
