PICTURE ENTERTAINMENT

ATTENDANCE BY SCHOOL A subject which involved discussion at the last meeting of the Whakatanc School Committee was introduced by Mr F. W. Lysaght ? who stated that some of the parents were raising objections, to the number of films which the school was attending and the type of picture Avhieh, they declared was ? in many instances not suitable.

The j\lr 1. 13. Hubbard stated that during the year ? the .school had attended no more than three # or perhaps four, films. The. last one, 'Madame Curie' was not light entertainment but. definitely informative. Only the High School and the senior classes of the Primary School attended. Ihe Education Board itself recommended certain pictures. Ninety-five per cent, of what children learned came through the eye and pictures were an excellent medium.

The committee agreed that. the value of educational pictures to chil-

dren could not be over and expressed the hope that perhaps sometime in the future the school might be able to acquire a projecr tor of its own.
