MAORI INFANT LOST

A drowning'fatality wich occurred at tlu; Heads at approximately (i.HO p.m. on Sunday evening was responsible for the death of Herbert Ray Hauraki a small Maori boy aged about 'A years. Deceased was the son of jS'lr H. Hauraki of (Jisborne, and was living with Mr Martin Reuben the Heads Whakatane.
Deceased was apparently swimming with other Maori chilclrcn at the muddats approximately hall' way to the Heads when he stepped into a hole without being noticed. He was taken to the Whakatane Public Hospital where every attempt at artificial respiration was made, but to no avail. The inquest for identification purposes was opened last night before Mr C. S. Armstrong District Cor- ' •> oner and adjourned.
