HOUSES OF HAIR

In Eastern Palestine may be seen what have been called "houses of hair." Actually these "houses" are Arabs' tents made of hair-cloth, hence their name. The remarkable thing about them is that while , * stone-built towns with their castles ' ' columns and temples have been deserted and left to fall into ruin, .their very sites being buried under the desert sand, these frail "houses of hair" are there today as they were thousands of years ago. Again and again the Arabs have been pushed back for a time and then have returned, their patience and perseverance outlasting the strength of mighty empires.
