The prolonged dry spell which was last approaching the proportions ol' a drought was broken last night when welcome rain fell in the \Vhakatanc district in common with the J rest of New Zealand. .51. inches of rain were recorded. Last night's high wind was responsible for minor damage within the Borough. A wattle tree in the grounds of Mr A.' (5. Allan's home Domain Koad ? was 'split and 1)1 own down, whilst in" Landing Road the top of a chimney Avas lifted oil". Slight damage which at the time of going to press was being investigated is reported by the P. and T. Department whilst the. Bay of Plenty Power Board reports that as far as can be ascertained its lines, are in good order.
