SNOOKER

WHAKATANE DEFEATS OPOTIKI

A snooker team of seven selected from Whakatane successfully defeated an Opotiki team at Opotiki on Wednesday before a large crowd of spectators. The match was in the nature of a challenge from this town for the. Cup, presented by Billiards Ltd. in 1934. lor competition and held by Opotiki.

The Whakatane team was as follows: T. Morgan McGarvey ? J. Thompson j M. Kiri ? S. Davis, T. Crapp and H. Hudson. The winners of the Cup were decided by the narrow margin of four games to three. All games were very closely contested in the majoritv of cases the final score showing black to win. Challenges have previously been accepted by Cup holders, from teams as far north as Matamata, and doubt- ! less_ now that Whakatane holds it., challenges may lie expected from many other towns. The Cup is on display in Mr Jack Moure's window.
