QUESTION OF SUPPLY
MATTER TO BE INVESTIGATED
Replying to the Borough Council's letter regarding the unsuitabilit.y of the supply of water from the Wairere Stream to users in the Pa and also to the query as to the number of Pakeha users also reticulated
from the same souree ) the. Department of Health has notified the names of nine individual properties to which the water is piped.
At last Monday's meeting the Mayor, Mr 13. S. Barry ? said the, Council had no record of the number of people outside the Pa who were using the water but he underthat in practically all it was nothing more than a supplementary supply. He suggested, therefore that the only thing the Council could do was to issue a warning to the people on behalf of the Health Department.
Discussing the matter further, Cr Sullivan stated that following rep. resentations by Cr the Minister of Health had decided to send an officer, to Whakatane to investigate the whole question of the water supply to the Maori Pa.
Cr Creeke added that following his interview w T ith the Minister he felt that there were now ways and means of overcoming the problem.
