The most remarkable feature of the response to the current* Patriotic Appeal is the manner in which it was so substantially oversubscribed by seven districts, the total amounting to £3 119 16s 9d. This was disclosed 9 at a meeting of the Zone Committee last Thursday when the whole position was tabled by the secretary s Mr C. G. Lucas. The most prominent feature of ill? table setting out the position is that Te Teko a district carrying a large Maori population heads the list of over-subscriptions with an excess of no less than £1, ( 196 18s 7d. In effect then Te Teko with its current levy taken into consideration (£540) found over three times that amount £1 ? 736 18s 7d. Edgecumbe with £1,125 lis Id to find subscribed £2 286 5s 3d an excess of £1,160 14s 2d. The Borough of Whakatane; and Ohope over-subscflibed to the extent of £626 2s 9d, while Taneatua and Opouriao found £80 extra. Otakiri found £49 11s 6d in excess and Waimana £6 4s 2d.
