FIRE BRIGADE DANCE

ANNUAL FUNCTION HELD FULL DISTRICT SUPPORT ! The Caledonian Hall was. the ren- ; dezvous for a large number of dancers from all parts of the district on Friday evening, when the local Volunteer Fire Brigade held its annual dance. Things went well right from the start and once again patrons were treated to the generous display of hospitality at which the local brigadesmen appear to excel. Mr I. Roulston as Master of Ceremonies handled proceedings capably, whilst the Premier Band, supplied thoroughly enjoyable music. Novelty dances were well to the fore ) and were favourites with the crowd. Stage decorations consisted mainly of greenery whilst a typical atmosphere was lent by the addition of a hydrant which was surrounded by cheeper. A helmet was placed just below it and the whole was offset by coloured electric light bulbs forming the letters WVFB along the front. Supper was and the serving of it was a credit to the brigadesmen who performed the. by no means easy task. During this interval } Mr T, Hurndell took the opportunity of apologising for the unavoidable absence of the Superintendent and thanked all patrons for their support. Mr Neville Harris supplied a very enjoyable extra. The Novelty Monte Carlo, was thie surprise dance of the evening. From a packed floor at the beginning the crowd was gradually cut down till only two couples remained. No. 7 was drawn —and the couple who chanced to be sitting under the helmet were declared the winners. The prize was a double ticket to the picture 'Home in Indiana' and a box of chocolates, both presented by the management of the Regent Theatre. Winners of novelty dances were as under:— Monte Carlo: Mr 'Barney' Mexted and Miss N. Trotter. *. Lucky Gay Gordons: Mr Harry Mole and Miss Julia Cameron. Lucky Spot Waltz: Miss Helen Newton and partner. Novelty Monte Carlo: Mr Bob Byrne and Miss Mai re Hall. A competition was won by Mir G. Fowell.
