WEDDING BELLS

SMEITH—JURD The Kutarcre Methodist Church was the scene of a pretty wedding on Oetobcr 17 when Su&ie. Ivy, second daughter of Mr and. Mrs A. W. J urd, "Waionga } " was married to William Albert, second son of Mr W. and the late Mrs Smeith of Miramar, Wellington. Rev. D. G. Sberson officiated and Mrs E. F. Carter presided at the organ. The church had been prettily de. corated by the bride's aunts with arum lilies and white- azalia. The bride who entered the church on the arm cf her father } made a pretty picture in her simple-cut gown of satin-backed embossed morocain in an off white shade. She wore her mother's wedding veil of silk embroidered tulle and orange blossom. Her flowers were a trailing sheaf of white lily of the valley maiden hair fern and asparagus .

The bride was attended by ber jour sisters,* the Misses Mary } Ruth. Aila and Jennifer Jurd 5 who were all dressed alike in picture frocks of white voile patterned in an allover design of pink roses and blue daisies. They carried Victorian posies ol' pink and blue flowers with matching head dresses. The bridegroom (who has recently returned from i'our years the great-; er portion of which time was spent in Italian and German prison camps) was attended by his brother Mr H. J. Smeith as best man and Messrs N. S. Rolinson and I. J. Ashley as all of Wellington. A happy note was struck by the local school who formed a guard of honour and sang "I'll Walk Beside You" ? and scattered a cherry blossom path as the happy couple left the church.

Later some 90 relatives and friends from all parts of the Bay, including the bride's two grandmothers, Mrs Jurd (Tauranga) and Mrs Hill (Tan. eatua) were entertained at the home of the bride's where the delightful old-world garden made a suitable setting i'or such an event. Mrs Smeith chose a brown iloral frock beige wool coat and brown accessories as her travelling outfit. The happy couple were the recipients of many beautiful presents and a number of cheques.
