FARM TRAINEES
HOUSE ALLOWANCE AND FUR-
NITURE REMOVALS
Because of the difficulty being ex
perionced in some districts in arranging for married ex.servicemen on farms Avhere suitable accommodation for wives and families is available, the. Rehabilitation Board lias decided to consider applications
for house allowances from ex.service
men in such circumstances
The board has; also reviewed its policy regarding furniture removals by married farm trainees in view of the necessity in some cases for more than one removal. Besides paying for the first shift the board, will
now meet the expense of others where thought necessary and wlier-? they have taken place as a dircct result of training.
It was decided that wherever possible married ex-servicemen approved for training with private farmers should be placed on properties where "married accommodation" was available. Where this is not possible irrespective of whether the trainee leaves his original hiome. or transfers nearer to his place of training the board will now consider on its merits an application for a weekly house allowance to enable the trainee to maintain his city or other residence. The maximum allowance is to be £1 10s a the actual j amount paid being the difference between 10s a week and the amount the trainee has to find in rent or weekly payments (principal and interest) on a mortgage. For example if a trainee is not provided with married acemmodation by his em. ployer and maintains a home elsewhere for which he pays £2 5s a week the board will consider paving- the maximum allowance of £1 Ids a week, [f on the other hand, lie pays £1 Ids a week house rent ? the board will consider leaving an allowance of £1 a week. When suit-' able married accommodation is proan employe.r may deduct ten shillings a week from the trainees' wages. Neither bouse' alloAvances nor furniture removal expenses will be paid to ex-servicemen taking courses at Agricultural Colleges.
