CROQUET
OPENING OF SEASON
The opening of the Whakatane Croquet Club's lawns for the sea. son took place on Saturday afternoon, October 20, when several members from the Taneatua Club were present. The weather was disappointing, for although iine } it was very cold. The -Mrs Crceke, wel. corned the visitors and members, and wished all a very pleasant afternoon. She then played the first ball and declared the greens open. Competitions were played 9 the winners being as follows: —Hitting Peg: Mrs Bennett (Taneatua); target croquet: Mrs Pettit (Taneatua); lad. der crazy croquet: Mrs Burgess (Whakatane). A dainty afternoon tea served and enjoyed after which the president presented the prizes which had been generously .-.mated by Mesdames Creeke, Hellyar Shaw and Sutherland. The club is very much indebted to Mr J. Creeke for his generous help in preparing the lawns ready for the opening.
