SAVING OF WINTER FEED
Through the use of vasectomised rams for marking 350 ewes which failed to get in lamb last autumn, the manager of an East Coast llock of 7000 was in a position to sell his barren ewes fat at the end of May, and. thereby make available more winter feed for those ewes carrying lamb.s. The advantages of carrying through the winter only thpse ewes showing a (direct profit in lambs are! considered by the manager to be reflected in healthier ewes and heavier birth-weights of which subsequently fatten, earlier,. The operation of rendering sterile 25 "scrub" rams for sorting out the barren ewes on the property was carried out last summer by Mr W. M. Webster lecturer in veterinary science at Mas'sey Agricultural .College? at a gathering of farmers.
