RABBIT CONTROL
LARGE AREAS TREATED
The Inspector's report to the Pongokawa Rabbit Board at its last meeting indicated tha.t a very ex. tensive amount of land had been treated for rabbits. In this, HOilbs of Phosphorised Pollard and 50%1bs of Cyanogas were used 9645 acres being and 9690 acres fumigated. Wet weather interfered with poisoning operations but work of fumigation was carried on, and many young rabbits, which were showing up in a number of districts destroyed.
"Up till the present" the report continued, "no work has been done on the State Forest Lands in the Murupara area, between the North-; ern Boundary lioad and the Ngata. mawahine Stream. There, are a few rabbits on Troutebeclc Road and the Main Highway at Murupara, both places being under State Forest control. Young rabbits arc now showing up over the whole- of our infested areas, and special efforts will have, to be made during the next two or three months to prevent any increase in the rabbit population."
The report concluded by thanking all those ratepayers who had cooperate,tl by putting camps at the disposal of thie workmen shifting stock and in some helping with the actual destruction work.
