Discussing the letter from the County Council relative to the pro-i posal to merge the Whakatane Hospital district, with that of the WaH kato His Worship the Mayor last Monday evening said that Mr Sullivan M.P. had assured him that he anticipated some Government statement regarding the future 'financing of hospitals from the present session of Parliament. The council decided to await the result of the County Council's last letter to the Hospital Board and then to meet the County and discuss the. matter fully. Gorse in Borough The question of controlling the. growth of gorse within tbe-Borough was touched on at the Borough Council meeting last Monday evening when the Foreman (Mr W. S. Henderson) mentioned that there were certain clumps growing on the roadway in front of Government and Native properties. The Mayor observed that it was up to the council to clear these patches as it was a poor example to the private landowner. In answer to the Foreman's query that it was.' usually assumed that the landowner should clcar the road to its centre line, Mr Barry saicl that such was th'e legal position but in his opinion the council should take more active measures. It was decided to clear all road frontages of noxious- weeds where Government and Native lands were concerned. "
