ART OF SWIMMING
LOCAL CLUB FORMED
INITIAL MEETING HELD
Keenness and enthusiasm were the keynote of the initial meeting of the j newly formed Whakatane Amateur Swimming Club which took place last Wednesday evening. As a result a strong organisation was built up and a potential programme discussed in the interests of swimming generally. Mr C. S. Armstrong was appointed to the chair and after a ehort discussion it was unanimously decided to form the club for the avowed purpose of promoting and encouraging swimming amongst the younger generation. The election of officers resulted:— Patron: Mr W. Sullivan, President: Mr Allan Morpeth. Vice-presidents: Messrs H. Brewi ard,. W. Armstrong J. Creeke J. D. Rivett N. Bremner, G, 'Lodge J. T. Jordan, F. Prideaux W.. Brid. ger E. R. Dillicar W. Henderson j > j B_ S. Barry and Les Brown. Committee: Messrs C. T. Bathe, F. Cameron F. Comer Snr. C S. •> '9 Armstrong H, R. all and J. Chadwick; Mesdames R. Morpeth t J. Whitehead and Miss.es J. McLeod and Pauline Chadwick. Secretary: Mr A. M. Comer. Assistant Secretarv: Miss P. Hancock. Treasurer! Mr C. S. Armstrong. Subscriptions were fixed as follows: Senior (21 years and over) 7/6; Intermediate (15 to 21 years) 5/-; Junior (up to 15 years) 2/6. The club decided to issue an open invitation to parents generally to encourage their children to iearn to swim under its aegis 5 whereby qualified trainers will be made available for their especial benefit.
