MAORI FAREWELLS
MR AND MRS LUKE RANGI
In view of their transfer to Whafarewells by the Maori people were tendered lo Mr and Mrs Luke Rangi at Ruatoki and Poroporo recently. Presentations were made in both instances ancl the feeling was generally one of regret that Mr and Mrs. ißangi should be leaving the district and all the various, bodies and associations' with which they were connected. At Ruatoki the evening took the form of a social, with musical i.'ems and action songs by the pupils of the Ruatoki Native School, Several of the leading chiefs of Ruatoki 'spoke and Mr and Mrs- Rangi were presented with a cheque. At Poroporo a social evening and a dance was held by the Maoris of the district and once again Maori ■ > > action songs and items found prominent place in , the programme. Speeches were made by three of the leading chiefs and a presentation consisting of two silver iruit bowls was made, together with n cheque. On both occasions, Mr Rangi re-< plied ? expressing his regret at leaving the Bay of Plenty and the people of the district with whom lie had had such happy and said that both he and, his wife would long remember the farewells accorded them.
