CRICKET PROSPECTS
UNITED CLUB'S YEAR
ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING
The annual general meeting of the United Cricket Club was held in the Borough Council Chambers on Wed- 1 nesday evening there being a good attendance ol' cricketers and others interested present. The annual report of the President indicated that with the recent cessation of hostilities this Llie sec- ? , 9 ond year of the club's existence, was looked forward to with every confidence. Membership was also expected to increase, considerably as a result of releases from tbe Armed Forces. In the early part of last season, the elub was successful in annexing the Championship (Collins Shield). Five members of the club were selectcd to represent the Bay of Plonty Crieket Association during the year and four the Whakatane Cricket Association. Th'e wicket proved an expensive, item and £30 3s lid; w-aH spent in laying down a new one. I Once again the Ladies.' Commitc performed admirably and were always on the. job Avhen called upon. The dinner recently held in their honour was a highly successful c:.e. Election of Officers The election of officers took place as under:—. Patron: His Worshiip tbe Mayor. Mr B. S. Barry. President: Mr J. D. liivett. Secretary-Treasurer: Mr W. J. MeKenzie, Management Committee: Messrs. L. ill. Spring, N. E. lligden F. AV. Cameron, A. G. Fisher, A. Flay M. C. Fookes ? F. M. Abbott J. Rivett. Ladies Committee: Mesdames RivSpring, r'isher Morpeth, Bennett Crawford Parkes Cameron, ' > : liigden Whitehead and Miss Grover. Club Captain: N. E. Rigden. Delegates to Whakatane Cricket Association: W. J. MeKenzie, A. G. Fisher. j Official Scorer: M. C.. Fookes. Colours: Royal Bliie and White. Information as to the club's finances showed them to be in a very sound; position. The. club commenced the season with a debit balance of £2 10s (M and at the end, after an expenditure of £(55 i(ss 4.d had a working balance of £33 4s assets amounting to £220, and no'liabilities. Indications show that the forthcoming season should; be a very successful one, and ' the club hopes to have, the support of all local people interested in its activities.
