GESTURE TO RETURNED MEW MR W. SULLIVAN'S QUESTION 5 in the House of Repreu sentatives y Mr W. Sullivan (Na-» tional, Bay of Plenty) asked the Minister of Defence whether hie would make available to New Zea-» landers who had served in the Royal Navy and other British Services free railway passes as were now extended to the men of the Services. In a note to the question, Mr Sullivan said that many New Zealanders whio were in the United Kingdom when war was declared joined up with the British Services and on returning to this country were not grant" cd this privilege. t the Minister of Defence (Mr Jones) said the matters received the consideration of the War Cabinet some months ago and it was decided subject to the approval; of the Minister of Defence in. each* case free railway travel facilitiesin New Zealand for a period of 2{£ days might be issued to any persom who, ordinarily resident in New returned to New Zealand after discharge from service in the Armed Forces (other than the New* Zealand Forces) of Great the British Dominions * India or the Allies. Those who wished to take advantage of this privilege might make application to any Army office in New Zealand where the full conditions under which the free travel warrant might be issued would be explained.
