SPRING BLOOMS

ST. GEORGE'S ANNUAL SHOW ARISTOCRATS ON DISPLAY The St, George's; Annual Bulb and Spring Flower Show held in the Parish Hall on Thursday afternoon, resulted in a wide, and varied selec-/ tion of Spring; bulbs and cut flow-i er.s being displayed. Arranged round the walls on stands, the many and different colours and shades blended to form a picturesque setting, whilst the delightful scent of so many llowers brought a breath of Spring to the air. At the far end of the hall, and ranged along part of one wall, were the decorated which contained arum lillies, polyanthus;, violets and cyclamen. A novel touch to two of the bowls was added by way of using half cumicums for containers . Completing the display on the decorated bowl side were vases of flowering shrubs, waratah tree tulips bearded iris—an uncommon variety —Rhododendrons Iceland poppies, which showed to excellent effect, stock and a tulip. The opposite side of the hall held the spring bulbs, which were early despite the recent storms. 'Daffodils, neinesia calendulas, freezias and anemones were notedamong the selection., the daffodils, particularly being worthy of mention. The produce stall, in charge of Mesdames Suckling and Zinsli was well laden, in the early part of fche day but as a result of constant' patronage, by the end of the afternoon the stock had become almost totally depicted. Afternoon tea served by a committee of ladies including Mesdames McLeod Armstrong and A. C. Shaw under Mrs Goodall was very tasty, items given were violin solos by Mrs Rushbrook, violin solos by Mrs Larmer (accompanist was Airs K. Stewart), and a pianoforte solo by Mrs Craddock. All were very well received and greeted with applause. The children's section was a very I interesting and decorative one. It was under the stewardship of Mrs Fraser and all entries for the varipus competitions were of a high standard, showing much careful thought and preparation. Results from this section, were as follows: 16 Years and Under Lady's Spray: Margaret Coates 1; Joan Rawson 2. Decorated Saucer: Marie Wovrall. Any Woodwork Article: Clive. Suckling 1. (Winning article was a very well-made occasional t^ble). 12 Years and 1 Under Gentlemen's Buttonhole: Irina Stubbs 1; Yvonne Zinsli 2. Vase Arranged for Effect: Yvonne Zinsli 1; Fay Cantrell 2. Posy: Joan Chadwiek 1; Shirley Hannah 2. Decorated Saucer: Yvonne Zinsli 1; Maureen Ball 2. Decorated Saucer (dowers only): Shirley Hannah 1;. Audrey Bathe 2. Eblem in Saucer: John Fennel 1 1. (American Air Force Insignia); Robin- Zinsli 2 ('V' for Victory). Decoratcd Bowl: Valeric Middlemas 1.
