LADIES' ENTERTAINED UNITED CLUB'S COi\IPLI MENTAR Y DINNER An exceptionally enjoyable evening was held last Saturday, when the 'officers of the Whakatane United v Cricket Club, as a mark of appreciation to the Ladies-' Committee •entertained them to a dinner at the Commercial Hotel, and afterwards as the guests of Air and Mrs J. D. Rivett, In welcoming the. guests, the Club President, Mr J. D. Rivett, spoLe -of the gre'at work done by the Ladies' > Committee, and mentioned the gratitude of the players, both local and visiting for the high standard of catering so pleasantly carried out. The dinner, he said, was a small : gesture on behalf of members, to •show their appreciation in some tangible form. Mr L. R. Spring responded briefly for the ladies concerned, and assured players that the support of the Ladies' Committee would be forthcoming in the new season when desired. Several toasts were drunk with -enthoi&iasm. 'The Ladies' Comirittee" proposed by Mr J. D. Rivett, replieid by Mrs Spring; "Club Supporters" Mr L. R. Spring, Mr B. S. Barry; "The President" Mr N. E. Rigden, Mr J. D. ißivctt; "Kindred Sports" Mr J. D. Rivett, Mr W. ; Henderson. The party of 28 present were very fully entertained during the rest of the evening by Mr and Mrs Rivett, whose generosity was very much ■tippreciateid by all. A delicious supper was served, and dancing and musical items continued until a late Ihour.
