WOMEN'S INSTITUTE

MEETING AT EDGECUMBE The August meeting of the Edgecumbe Women's Institute was held on Tuesday 21st, Mrs Burgess presiding over a good attendance of members. After the Ode to Friendsliip had been sung and the Aspirations read routine business was dealt with. A draw for officers for members day resulted in Mrs Martin being President and Mrs Mai pas Secretary for the September meeting. The programme for the afternoon was then taken over by visitors from the Otakiri W.I. Mrs Armstrong presented a lovely posy to Mrs Bur-« gess with compliments from kiri and thanked Edgeeumbe for the programme they had provided at the Otakiri meeting. The lirst item was a musical story competition won bA* Mrs Snelling. Two songs Avere sung by Mrs Armstrong in her usual pleasing manner and were much enjoyed. An "initial" competition was clever anil original. Mrs Peek delighted her audience with two excellently rendered elocutionary items, A relay race was Avon by Edgeand a Avail competition by Miss Chambers. Mrs Burge&s thanked the Otakiri members for the most enjoyable programme. -A dainty afternoon tea Avas served by Mrs Crang, Mrs Mrs Goldsmith and Mrs NeAvliggin hostesses for the day. A pleasant afternoon concluded Avith the singing of the National Anthem.
