STRAND EXTENSION
THREE PARTY CONFERENCE URGED
CHAMBER TO CONVENE
In answer to the Borough Council's indication, that it would be prepared to receive a deputation from tlid Chamber of Commerce with regard to the Strand Extension scheme, the Chamber, at its meeting last night decided to convene a conference between the parties. concerned. A letter from the Harbour Board expressed appreciation of the Chamber's interest and requested notification of the date most suitable to a deputation.
Mr Canning did not favour a deputation to an ordinary meeting of the Council when it was possible that a full agenda might result in crowding out this very vital question. He favoured the calling, a special co<ni'crence between all three bodies, claiming that the subject was important enough to warrant a special meeting. The chairman agreed f but Mr Good thought such a move would be Jacking in tact in the face of the council's definite invitation to send a deputation. Messrs Chapman and Thomas algo supported a special the latter finally moving that the Chamber fix a date and take the initiative in inviting both, the Council and the Harbour Board to attend for the purpose of discussing the wliole matter in full. The date tentatively agreed upon was Thursday ; September 20 at 7.30 p.m.
