OHOPE DOMAIN BOARD
APPLICATION FOR GRANT Last year the Wliakatane Borough Council made its first grant to the Oliope Domain Board the sum being in view of the fact that no previous grants had been made ? and also because of Hood damage sustained by the. beach. At the last meeting of the Council, a further application for a grant was received from the Ohope Domain Board and was the subject of some considerable discussion. Expressing his views on the matCr Creeke stated that he was not in favour of supporting the Ohope Board. The County Council wds almost the sole rate collector from the and therefore it was up to that body to support it. He suggested that if there were, to be any grants made they should be made to the Whakatane Domain Board. Cr Shapley suggested that pedfaaps they should make a grant but certainly not to the extent of £25.
His Worship the Mayor pointed out that the £25 referred to was partly for flood damage and partly to make up for the fact that nothing liad been given in previous years. Certainly the grant could not be •made equal to that of last yea but he nevertheless thought that as the community as s, whole did derive some benefit from Ohope, particularly the business section from tourist some support should be shown. Cr Canning also favoured the granting of a smaller sum. It was decided that £10 10s should be the amount of the grant.
