Station Road Again
The other side of the picture with regard to the. building up of Station Road was conveyed to the County Council in a letter from Mr W. B. Sou tar at its last meeting. The writer referred to the press re-» port of repesentation made at the last meeting of the Council a deputation who objected to certain work being carried out on. Station Road. The on behalf of settlers irii the Poroporo area and oa the lower side of the road wishes to refute the statement that the Lands Department had made a ponding area of certain lands that are at present unproductive. The writer states that the Chief Drainage Engineer promised that when Station Road was raised suificiently to prevent the ever-recurring small "nuisance" floodgates would be erected at the Te Rahu thereby keeping the area clear of flood water. Lands are rated both for drainage and county purposes and the settlers resent any suggestion that they would be left to literally sink or swim.
