MAKOGAI LEPERS
Sir —Two thousand • five hundred leper' sufferers in the Islands of Makogai in Fiji, Samoa, Tonga ? New. Caledonia j New Hebrides and the British South Solomons are looking to us for some token of remembrance at Christma& time. For some there is hope of recovrery but for others the outlook is black and there is no chance of re-> turning home. It was my privilege to visit these people for eleven days and I saw quite a number who were maimed and deformed and some of these were women and children. We feel that we have a responsibility towards these stricken ones who are our nearest neighbours. In God's name I once again plead their cause and trust that the customary generosity of your readers will bring brightness to their lives and relief from sorrow. Half rates'are charged on all par-* eels addressed to me for the lepers and all donations will be acknowledged by me personally. Yours etc. P. J. TWOMEY, Secretary, Lepers' Trust Board Christcburch.
