Next Saturday's Rugby A classic event in; the Rugby world on Saturday next will be the match between the Whakatane Junior Reps, and the Bay of Plenty High School Reps, which takes place on the Whakatane Domain. The school team is a particularly strong one and football of a high standard is anticipated. The kick off is at 2 p.m. Rugby fans will also have in mind the forthcoming Auckland-Bay of Plenty match on Saturday August 11. Boys' Pipe Band Concert at Te Teko The first of a aeries of poncerts on the East C'oa&t will be given by the Whakatane Caledonian Society's Boys Pipe Band at Te Teko on Thursday evening next. The Band which will be composed of 25 performers can be relied upon to give a full concert programme of a first class order. Items will of course be predominately Scottish in character and will include apart from Band items sketches humour elocution solos » » > and a wealth of other surprises which cannot fail to delight. Theft of Watch At the Whakatane Court on Friday before Messrs G. A. Brabant f and J. King, J.Ps Maurice Parry of Piripai, pleaded guilty to a charge of stealing a wristlet watch ? valued at £4 15s the' property of Ben Kaiwhata. The theft was alleged to have taken place on or about June 26. For the police, Sergeant Farre.ll stated that defendant was a farm hand employed at Te Teko. Previously, he had been employed in a temporary capacity at the Whakatane Paper Mills. While there ? lie had picked up the watch which belonged to a fellow employee, and omitted to return it. Defendant had served overseas, and had never been before the court before. A fine of £10 was inflicted. Meat Coupons To compensate for the higher retail prices of meat the. value of coupons H and J in the North Island will'be increased as from' August 1 , according to an announcement byi the Food. Controller, Mr A. J. Costelloe. Both coupons will be worth 4d each from August Ito 19 5d 9 from Art gust 20 to October 31 ? and 4d ; from November 1 to 30. From December 1 to 31 they will be valued at 3d. Mr Costelloe stated there was a slight variation from the procedure followed last year, in* that the H and J coupons had been given identical values throughout the period The difference in meat consumption would be negligable and the simplification of the scheme from the point of view of the butcher and the housewife made the alteration worthwhile.
