TRUCK CAPSIZES
PLUNGE INTO DREDGE CUT
DRIVER'S MIRACULOUS ESCAPE
A miraculous escape from (death - was had by the driver of a van belonging to Mr N. E. Rigden on Mon>day when it overturned and plunged into the dredge cut just this side of the Thornton bridge. The truck was apparently proceeding along the Thornton Road when the driver suddenly saw some kiddies playing on the road. The surface of the road was greasy owing to the heavy rain which fell during the and on the application of the bra'kes which gripped suddenly ? the lorry skidded out of capsized, and plunged into the dredge cut w T herein it landed upside down. Fortunately i} the accident was not without witnesses and i m ' by the time the driver had the door undone a boat was directly above from which assistance was given. The driver escaped without serious injury, but the truck sustained a certain amount of damage.
