OTAKIRI'S HOSPITAL DAY The Otakiri Women's Institute meeting was held at the Otakiri Hall on Wednesday, July 4 Mrs Armstrong presiding over a large gathering. The Golden Thread was Feeding the people is important at this time." The Roll Call "How to entertain a sick child, and a garment for the Annexe" was very welf""answered in both sections. A talk on Hospital Experiences by Mrs Hutton was; both instructive and amusing as all heard of the serious as well as the lighter side of this life. A demonstration of Poker Work by Mrs Peck was very ably given and proved of absorbing interest to those present the number of articles in all stages of completion giving every detail of the work. This being Hospital Day everything possible was done along this line and Mrs Armstrong in rendering a song also chose one with a nursing theme. i The competitions were to be presented to the hospital patients and a very good response was given in all sections judging by the car load that was packed at the close of the afternoon. Winners of the competitions were as follows: A } Hospital gift box. for patient: Mrs Armstrong 1; Mrs G. Murray 2; Mrs Peck 3. B ? Plain sponge and filling: Mrs Peck 1; Mrs Missen 2; Mrs Armstrong 3. C > Arranged, bunch of flowers: Mrs Armstrong 1; Mrs Missen 2; Mrs Peck 3. Best flower: Mrs Hutton 1; Mrs> Armstrong 2; Mrs Misen 3. Best vegetable: Mrs Lord 1; Mrs F. Mayo 3; Mrs Peck 3. The afternoon closed with afternoon tea and the hostesses were Mesdames Gilbert and Dunning.
