YOUNG FARMERS' CLUBS

DISTRICT COMMITTEE

MEETING AT OPOTIKI 1

The District Committee of the Eastern Bay of Plenty Young. Farmers' Clubs met in the Parish Hall on July 16. Mr 11. C.' White, district president took the chair and welcomed delegates and members from the Western Bay of Plenty District, Committee. There was an attendance of twenty,-three. The. meeting stood in silence for a short time in respect' for fellow members killed in action. The chairman's opening remarks covered the reduced activities of Young Farmers' Clubs during the war years ami he also said he was very pleased to see the Opotiki Club resuscitated and a new club formed at the Opotiki District High School. He hoped that it would be possible for the Taneatua and the Edgecumbe Clubs to come out of recess at an early date. The financial statement wvas read discussed and adopted, and an election of officers to fill vacancies through death and leaving the district took place. Mr E. R. Marry,att, Fields Instructor was appointed district secretary and Messrs I. B. Hubbard and E. R. Marryatt were elected joint trustees. The secretary said that a radio talk from IYA on September 24 next during the farmers' session at 7.15 p.m. was allotted to Eastern Bay of Plenty and arrangements were made to select a member to give this agricultural talk. Mr G. Te Puke, outlined the Y.F.C. Memorial Scheme which originated in the Paengaroa Club in 1941. Twelve proposals have been received so far but the committee will be pleased to receive further proposals. Of 0000 Y.F.C. members serving over 4500 became casualties, and over 500 paid the supreme sacrifice. A suitable memorial will be established in their memory but the form it will take has not yet been decided except that it will be a living and, not a stone memorial.
