SPORTS FACILITIES

DRESSING SHEDS NEEDED

BOARD TO BE CONTACTED

At the July meeting of the School Committee held on Wednesday eventhe Headmaster (Mr I. B. Hubbard) brought to the notice of meui-ber-s the need for the provision of dressing sheds equipped with showers for use by the pupils. The he said ? had grown to large, proportions, and with the importance of physical training and sport being continually stressed, something in the way of proper facilities was needed. He enquired whether the committee thought it should ask for such facilities. The chairman thought that penhaps it might not, be much use at the moment and suggested tliat as the cricket club was considering installing facilities for dressing, and some arrangement might be able, to be made in that direction. Mr Hubbard then suggested that the committee write asking that, the matter be kept in mind for the future? pointing out that, with roughly 600 pupils in, the school engaged in sporting proper facilities were necessary. Mr W. E. Armstrong asked whether the showers in the dressing sheds attached to the swimming bath could not be utilised. Mr Hubbard replied to the effect that besides being fairly far away from the. playing fields, they were too small for what was required. The only other buildings available were military huts, and he did not fancy these for the purpose. He thought that if the rapid growth of the school were pointed but to the Board together with the fact that if the syllabus for physical training and sports laid idoAvn were to be adhered to i} something might be done. It was resolved that the secretary be appointed to write to the * Board on the lines suggested by the Headmaster.
