SOCIAL CREDIT
WHAT IS IT? There lias recently been formed in this town a body known as The. Whakatane Social Credit Movement. This is a body of meft and women joined together to study the New Order and to pass on to the public at large the knowledge..thus gained. It is. open to' people of all political creeds, t * Social Credit is not just another "ism" to be foisted on an unsuspecting public, but is an honest attempt to show the people how to secure and hold on to that freedom lor which it is said, all wars are waged, How often do we achieve our goal militarily only to: find eventually that we have lost our Freedom in the Peace that follows? Our Freedom is held last in Bureaucratic Control and we find ourselves still held fast in the giant list of International Finance. Ever since the. Bank of England received its> Charter we have, been in the grip of High Finance and always we have watched spellbound, the web growing bigger and bigger and holding firmly everything it touched. Can nothing get us free from this net? For until we have Economic Freedom, there is no true Fredom In the light of what has been, done in Alberta in the face of stupendous opposition Social Credit appears to be the solution. As one small unit in the ever increasing World Army fighting for the New Order has the Whakatane Social Crfedit Movement been formed. Anybody willing to help in the light or who would like to study the subject is< invited to j get in touch with the local hon. secretary, L. C. Richards, 23 Stewrart Street, Phone 297. Any supporter of the Church could not do better than read the article, "Christians Awake" by Canon C. W. Chandler in the June issue of the Mirror. Canon Chandler writes: "It is easy enough for Christian people to pray for 'those who take counsel ifor the nations of the earth," that is to pray for the security planners of Dumbarton Oaks the financial wizards of Bretton* Woods, and the peace makers of the San Francisco Confernce. But such prayers will be meaningless repetitions of empty phrases unless Christian people can be sure of the real cause and the true motive by which these men are activated. Are those \vh<J deliberate and decide the destiny of nations imbued with Christian ideals and guided by Christian principles? Or are these deliberators the representatives of huge and powerful vested interests in the fields of finance—capitalism—those worshippers of mammon —each trying to gain some material advantage over his neighbour and in all essential respects striving, wittingly or unwittingly to keep the masses of the people in bondage to an anti-Chris-tian financial and economic system? "It has been clearly pointed out that sinster forces are at work and that the power of gold is again to be. used to enslave the world more effectively than ever in the bondage of debt and usury." The Social Credit Movement definitely holds the view that the credit and currency of a country should not. be issued by the Banks as a debt but should be under the control of a Central Authority. Many masters of "High Finance" try to ,tell you that this is taking away your freedom. It is doing just the opposite. Again, it is spoken of as an attack on Private Enterprise. It is nothing of the sort. The. Manifesto of the Social Credit Movement states clearly: "Private Enterprise be given the first opportunity to provide goods and services, in the interests of the community." Each month the Whakatane Social Credit Movement hopes jto have a column in the "Beacon" of an educational nature. If anyone genuinely wishes information, please write to the secretary and it will be answered in this column. This is not to be taken as an invitation to an acrimonious debate. There is a proper time and place for that. In view of the immense importance of Bret ton Woods and the fact that it will be discussed at the coming session of Parliament, next month's column will deal with Bret r ton Woods and the Gold Standard.
