RED CROSS ACTIVITIES
WHAKATANE BRANCH MEETS 1 WORK DURING MONTH r Jho Red Cross Society monthly ; meeting took place in the Borough Council Chambers on Tuesday, July 10 with Mrs \Y. Sullivan in the chair. Mrs Sullivan said that Mr Norman 5 Patterson had been ashed to act as j Treasurer for the Society on- the approaching resignation of Miss; Jlunti er ? and had agreed to do so. The collection of tinned food for , despatch lor the civilians in Britain > was still being added to. Other sub-' centres were also collecting and it was hoped a very good donation would .be made. V.A.D.: Mrs Pridcaux said the dance arranged by the V.A.s had, in spite of a very wet nighty raised £10 10s Gd. The Detachment has now raised well,, over £70 for the ( Building Fund. Home Nursing classes were and regular 'meeting were held. / Sewing: Mrs Ramson was not prebut sent in a report stating she. had 15 pairs of made up pjrjamas? and *77 ditty bags on hjand which would be sent to the Joint Council as soon as a further live pairs of pyjamas were made. Knitting: Mrs Timbs stated she had not despatched any garments this month though some completed ones were on hand. A further supply of wool lias been -rcceivecl, and more knitters were neded. Lady Gahvay Guild: Mrs Moran read an appeal from Lady Galway Guild Headquarters asking for warm garments, to be sent overseas early in August. Mrs Winstone read, a similar appeal from Red Gross Head- . quarters, and another from "Gorso." It was decided to work together ftnd issue a joint appeal for warm clean clothes. Entertainment Committee: No re- . l )ort - * Mrs E. Armstrong sakl there had been no farewell functions during the month. Comforts: Mrs Shapley said they had been instructed that no more hussifs would be required. Arrange- - ments had been made for baking 364 1 cakcs for the next batch of parcels. Shop: Mrs Cais'ley said streets were working well, and £93 13s; 9d had been raised since the beginning of June: Mrs B. S. Barn' was appointed delegate to the Peace Celebrations Committee. An appeal from "Corso" for raw wool to be sent to Greece, to assist the desperate clothing situation and , also help to employ girls in industry, was received. It was decided to ask the assistance of countiy subcentres. Remits to go before the Annual Meeting of the Dominion Council were and this concluded the meeting.
